Design concept for a rooftop pergola at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
Rooftop pergola shade structure constructed of light structural steel members. The structure is designed to encourage vine growth to soften the space and add a natural feel that will ultimately provide respite from the Texas sun.
A sculptural corten steel enclosure protects visitors at the elevator. Vines will spring from two semi-circular planters surrounding each column base to create a natural rooftop canopy–fabricated in complementary corten steel.
The 15 foot canopy above will allow ample height to welcome the breeze.
